Cable: Designed specifically for the intended application.Sinelli Systems, LLC
"Predicting the future of industrial and automation cabling"
Sinelli Systems LLC has patented the technology to determine when a cable or wire is going to fail, before it actually does.
How much does it cost when a cable fails on your plant floor?
How beneficial would it be, to know when a cable is going to fail,
before it does?
"Is scheduling a cable replacement better than shutting down a production facility at the cost of several thousand dollars a minute?"
By implementing this technology you are able to determine when a cable or wire is going to fail, prior to it actually failing. This will allow production facilities to achieve their ultimate goal – "cost reduction." This is done without interrupting the intended operation of the machine or apparatus it is connected to.
A complete system consists of the following components:
Monitor: The monitor can be mounted inside the control cabinet or remain an external component. Its function is to interpret the "health" of the cable assembly and produce the appropriate output upon determining if a cable assembly is in need of replacement. The output can be as simple as an audible alarm, or turning on a light, or as sophisticated as a direct interface with the machine control system.
When the monitor detects impending cable failure, an alarm is triggered which identifies to maintenance personnel which cable assembly requires replacement. The replacement cable is then ordered. The replacement can be assembled and shipped promptly. The replacement cable assembly is received at the plant and scheduled for installation during the next "planned" shut down.
Savings: Implementation of the system not only reduces unscheduled down time, but will also reduce the cost of collateral damage to drives, motors, encoders and other essential equipment, when an unexpected cable failure occurs.
What are the main causes of cable and wire failures?
Repetitive flexing or twisting:
Movement of the cable causes the conductors to work harden and break.
Abrasion and Environmental Factors:
Physical wear to the outer jacket insulation can lead to short circuits and potentially dangerous situations..
Once the jacket is breached, environmental factors, such as cutting fluids and solvents can quickly destroy the insulating material of the inner conductors. Inner jacket materials typically become brittle when exposed to oils and solvents, resulting in short circuits and sometimes mechanical failure of the cable as well.
Improper installation:
Most cable manufactures (Belden, Alpha, Lutze, Olflex, Mohawk, C&M etc.) of cable used for industrial or robotic applications publish procedures for preparing the cable prior to installation.
Even when proper cable preparation and installation procedures are known, many times they are not followed. This is especially true when a cable is being replaced on a machine that is down and every minute is costing thousands of dollars.
All of the above causes of cable failures can be detected before the cable actually fails.
Sinelli Systems can provide a Complete system, Bulk cable, engineering support or work with the cable manufacturer of your choice to provide the best solution.
